Do I need a physician’s approval to dive?
You may need a physician’s approval to dive. To determine if this is needed, complete the Diver Medical Questionnaire. You can complete this in the App by going to “More”, “Records”, and completing the “Medical” Statement online. Or you can download the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire from our website.
If you answer “Yes” one of the initial 10 questions or “Yes” to one of the follow up questions, you are required to have your physician complete the Physician Evaluation Form prior to any in-water activity. Please note if you take prescription medications or have had surgery in the last 12 months, you are required to have a physician’s approval. Please complete the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire and obtain your Physician's approval. The third page of the form must be signed by a Physician (MD or DO) and NOT a Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or a Physician’s Assistant. You can upload the signed document in the Documents section of your Personal Data or email to support@diverssupplyindy.com.
- What Next???
Divers' Supply Indy is notified that you have completed your SSI Online Registration and purchased your Scuba Diving Course. We'll then activate the course, making it available to proceed with the academic portion of your training. Your class will meet according to the schedule provided but you will need to read the digital material and pass the online review questions at the end of each section.
Each student is required to provide their own mask, snorkel, and fins for class. We invite you to visit one of our two store locations to be properly fitted by our professional staff for your personal gear. This will ensure the highest degree of comfort while ensuring we don’t exceed your budget or make you late for class.
Divers' Supply Indy will provide all the basic scuba gear you’ll use during Phase I, which includes: Regulators, Buoyancy Control Device, Dive Gauges. Weights, and Scuba Tank. Most students prefer to buy their own gear before Phase II, however we do offer a student rental package for everyone completing their Open Water Certifications with Divers’ Supply Indy.
Confined Water Training
This is where your instructor will put into practice the techniques you learned in the academics program. SSI’s training philosophy is “Comfort through repetition” so you’ll be practicing and perfecting your in-water skills under the supervision and guidance of our instructors and their professional assistants. Each pool session will consist of reviewing any prior skills as well as the introduction of a few new skills, which build upon previous skills. Once you and your instructor feel confident in your abilities to demonstrate the necessary skills for scuba diving in the pool, you’re ready to move on to Phase II – Open Water Certification Dives!
The Open Water course is broken into two phases.
Phase I · $350.00
Knowledge Development: theory work to help you understand the basic principles of scuba diving. This is reviewed in a final test in which you must score 80% or higher. Test can be retaken if needed. · Confined Water Dives: this is usually done in a pool or shallow water in the sea with the aim of teaching you basic scuba skills.
Phase II · $200 additional
Open Water Dives: You will complete six open water dives to earn your SSI Open Water Diver certification. These dives will be conducted in a natural environment where you’ll demonstrate your mastery of the skills you learned in the class and perfected in the pool.
Only three certification dives can be completed in one day
We schedule several opportunities to complete your open water checkout dives year-round. Ask us when and where we’re going to go next!
