- Legal Travel to Cuba: In order to qualify for traveling to Cuba…
-
- You must participate in a full-time schedule of activities under one of 12 general licenses approved by OFAC. This trip qualifies under licenses 515.575 – Humanitarian Projects (515.575. I am a person whose travel to Cuba is directly related to the humanitarian projects in or relation to Cuba that are designed to directly benefit the Cuban people set forth in paragraph (b) of CFR 515.575). The Blue Sanctuary program will include sitting in on lectures with a marine biologist, conducting fish surveys and various reef restoration projects.
-
- Visas do not need to be applied for in advance. When booking your airfare, the airlines will typically ask which license you will be traveling under. This would be 515.575 Humanitarian Projects. The visa or Cuban Tourist Card is typically issued at the gate or when checking in at the airport. The cost for this card is $50. The Cuban government will require this upon entry and departure from Cuba. It is very important to hang on to this paper, but it is also a good idea to take a picture of it with your phone. Should you lose the tourist card they may accept the photo when clearing out of the country.
- Ground Transfers – Transfers between Camaguey or Santa Clara and the dock are $85/person each way. Transfers between Havana and the dock are $200/person each way.
- The crew aboard Avalon are not able to collect money for gear rental or nitrox. If any will require rental gear or requests nitrox it must be paid for at the time of final payment.
- Gratuity – these are the only funds the crew can accept onboard. CASH ONLY. Euro and USD are both acceptable forms of currency. Worn and torn bills are not accepted in Cuba, so bring crisp new bills to ensure that your tip is spendable for the crew.
